When micro-transactions started making companies bucket loads of extra cash, we kind of knew it was a matter of time before a big company adopted it with one of their titles. Battlefield 1 is set to be the first big AAA game to get the micro-transaction treatment, so I guess you guys gotta prepare yourselves for what’s coming!

One thing I guess I should be happy with is that they are going to bring out map packs, I always enjoy new maps in a game after getting accustomed to the base game maps. With DICE’s history with Battlefield games, I’ve yet to see a god awful map release from them so with map pack DLC’s I’m not too disappointed to see this!

“As relates to Battlefield 1 and extra monetization opportunity,” CEO Andrew Wilson says, “taking a step back, any time we think about extra monetization inside an experience, we really think about it on two vectors: One, are we able to provide value to the gamer, in terms of extending and enhancing their experience? And two, are we able to do that in a world where we give them choice? We never want to be in a place where there’s a belief that we are providing a pay to win mechanic inside of one of our games.”

EA don’t want to bring in a pay to win service? HELL YEAH! I’m not exactly sure what the micro-transactions entail. Possibly more gold packs? Pay for specific skins/XP boosters? I hope what EA have said, they stick to, I’d hate to see such a great franchise turn into something rather rubbish…

We feel very confident in our ability to deliver that in a way that is deemed valuable by our player, and drives increased engagement over time with them.”

Now it seems EA are saying all the right things here, and it seems like Battlefield 4 has spoilt us just a little bit with a bit of perspective.
