Computer setup:

The premise is really simple, build up your fleet and destroy the particle emitters that create red particles. The red particles just keep increasing, amassing territory around their emitters. Others will blind fire ever increasing bunches of particles around the map, hoping to hit something. Later on they can create ships identical to your own, whether they are trying to merely get your attention or not, they fall under your own forces.
You on the other hand start with an HQ ship that can build energy mines, which can in turn build units. Energy mines also gain an area of effect, provided your units are within it, they get ammo replenishments and repairs. For the first few levels this limits your ability to expand and slows down how fast you can close the red particle generators. Coupled with the limited number of units available at the start it’s an exercise in patience and learning the ropes.
Once you start capturing better tech, such as fuel tankers, the game lulls you in with an easy level. Then suddenly the red particles will gain a new trick or speed their rates up and it’s back to the scrappy and fun fights. The balance seems just the other side of fair, and that matches the story of fighting an almost overwhelming force.
At one point I was trying to push just that bit further, my forces overstretched, but the generator was coming down slowly. It was a few seconds from death.
Then my large Wolf ship died, taking most of my firepower with it. Before I could get my forces safe, my tanker was hit by a shocker, ammo ran out and the entire flank went down in flames. I tried to rebuild too much in one go and nothing was finished when the last energy mine went down.
