Conclusion

We are now coming to a close of our time with the Lola after extensive testing and insight into what the buzz is about. In this section of the review, we will conclude our findings and see what makes the Lola stand out from other studio headphones as a whole.

To begin with, we want to reiterate that this is not a gaming headset or designed for any kind of  generalised themed product, it is designed for high-quality audio playback from studio work to everyday use and everything in between.  With that out if the way, let’s discuss a few of the main selling points and important features of any headset.

Comfort is a big thing with any kind of headset or headphones, too heavy and the headband causes an uncomfortable ache. Too light with the padding and it causes discomfort from minimal use. With the Lola being quite a pair of earphones came a lot of weight, the large thick black bars of padding surrounding the earphones and headband was a necessity. Not only did this make a heavy and large headset comfortable, it also allowed for a better fitting from background noise. Now onto the main and fairly unusual fitting of the headset, I was actually very impressed. The retention arm system used on the Lola made for not only a far better fit, it made for more comfort as the headphones adjust themselves to your head size rather than having to adjust up and down movements manually like most typical headphones.

The build quality and attention to detail have always been something significant to Blue products, credible from their other set of known headphones and iconic microphones. It would come to you as no surprise that the Lola is built to last with premium materials and precision made components. From the rubberised rear earcup guards to streamline metal frame, each part has been designed with versatility in mind and to allow for a better overall experience.

As mentioned earlier in this review, performance of the Lola was very pleasing and showed that the R&D team at Blue has taken a lot of careful consideration as to how they can pack good quality 50mm drivers that work as well into the Lola. The Lola is developed for all audio in mind so expecting a bass boosted headset which feels like you have 2 large subwoofers strapped to your head is not something you will find here. Why? Mainly as bass and other similar reverberations cause interference within the ears to prevent the user from hearing the “true” vibrations of the music being listened to, just like electrical wires cause static interference and stop the actual message from being relayed. The Lola performs for an all around experience and delivers exactly that.

Overall, I am very happy with the Blue Lola headphones and would like to take this time to bring up a few downsides that I have found. First, the price. Yes, the Lola is a studio designed headset and is fairly reasonable but with what is on offer you can easily find something on par for a little less. Next, the carry bag included didn’t seem large enough to house the headphones and thus was a pointless venture. Finally, the size. Yes, I will be that guy and most likely have a lot of people preach that when it comes to headphones, size shouldn’t matter as long as the earcups and headband are comfy. I agree, but the Lola is naturally a large headset and something I wouldn’t see myself sporting while on the go. If you can justify the cost for this headset and disregard the mentioned negative points, what you have on offer by Blue is a base line set of headphones that are built with premium materials to a very high level. The performance is great, the headset is comfortable and is very much at home in a music-based production studio. As a final point, I have to say I really enjoyed this review and the Lola rekindled my love for audio in ways other headsets have not. It allowed me to experience what true crisp audio was like, assisted with finding flaws in tracks that could be corrected during audio based editing and helped me see past the issue of bass addiction!

The Play3r Silver Award

With this review now at an end, I would like to thank Blue for giving us the chance to review this headset and making me a believer in true audio playback! With the conclusion I have made, I have no issue with presenting the Blue Lola with a Play3r Silver Award for good performance in all departments and I am sure the Blue Lola will be a much appreciated addition to any amateur or semi-professional audio production suite.
