[section_title title=”Closer Look”] Closer Look

As was the case with the Ceres 500 packaging, the Ceres 300 follows the same black and white scheme minus the cut out window to get a glimpse of the headset itself.

There’s not much to say on the back of the packaging with Cooler Master giving is a brief spec run-down and feature highlights.

Opening the box up and sliding the internal packaging out we’re presented with our first look at the Ceres 300. Interestingly enough, the Ceres 300 looks more like the Ozone Onda Pro than Cooler Master’s own Ceres 500.

The material on the earcups feels slightly different to the Ceres 500 but not necessarily better or worse. The cushion itself isn’t too resistive.

The headband certainly follows the same design cues that the Ceres 500 had – both similar to the Corsair HS1.

Compared to the outside of the Ceres 500, the Ceres 300 is only ‘half’ perforated. You can also make our that the earcups only have one angle of movement so no ability to fold the Ceres 300 for travel.

No locking mechanism on the Ceres 300 mic. It also seems to be the same design as the Onda Pro mic but in black.

Immediate positive to take away from the Ceres 300’s controls? No gaudy LED light to blind you. The volume box itself is really quite light although that’s to be expected, say, comparison to the Ceres 500 which has to manage PC and console settings.

Last but not least our missing friends – the trusty 3.5mm jacks. Cooler Master have finished them off with these angular grips – always a nice touch to have some customisation down to this level.

It’s clear from the design and (lack of) accessories that the Ceres 300 is entry level. That isn’t an issue by any means, but does Cooler Master’s budget orientated option have what it takes to stand on it’s own to feet or even duke it out with its big brother?
