Jumping right into the performance aspect as I like to do, the Noctua NH-U9S holds its own in a very crowded market. Featuring a 90mm PWM fan it is obviously not meant for massively overclocked systems though in my testing it was able to handle a 4770k with 1.3v pumping through it and while only just, it did pass all testing. When using on a 4770K with stock CPU settings it did a good job and kept the Delta temps just under 35c which is acceptable for me especially when considering the noise output from the fan(s) was not an issue which can sometimes happen with smaller fans. Noctua is known for performance and they have not let us down with their NH-U9S.

The design is something that we would definitely expect to see from Noctua. The fin array is very sturdy, has a good amount of fins and is designed to dissipate the air as best possible. The heat pipes and base plate are also built with quality and performance in mind. The fan, well as we all know you either love them or you hate them but even if they are not for you, you will be hard pressed to argue the performance they have to offer.

When it comes to the value there are a lot of things to consider, the overall performance, design and all of that fun stuff which is all on point. The price for the cooler falls right into place for what it is and what it has to offer. My personal opinion on Noctua’s value comes from another aspect though. The NH-U9S and other coolers come with a 6 year warranty and not only that, Noctua is known to supply mounting hardware to customers for various reasons. Say you used the cooler on Intel, threw away the AMD brackets then found yourself in a position to need an AMD bracket, Noctua have been known to supply this with ease for customers in the past and while I cannot guarantee they will continue to do this, their reputation speaks for itself and it is one that I personally hold high.

If you are in the market for a cooler and are not looking for a massive monstrosity than the NH-U9S is a good all-around option: performance, design and value are all words that can be associated with it.

I would like to thank Noctua for sending the NH-U9S in for review and look forward to seeing what they come out with next.
