First let’s touch on the design. I feel this is where the MC-1 shines the most. Coloured aluminium is currently one of my favourite looks for any product whether it be a speaker or even a motherboard heatsink. The MC-1 offers a very symmetrical design and as such is quite pleasing. The added bonus of being able to choose from a few different colours also never hurts anything!
The performance is where I feel we get let down a bit. The overall music quality is decent though nothing too spectacular, but what can we expect for the size of the unit? The call functionality is where we get let down, when on the receiving end the other person sounds crisp and clear but when using the mic part of the MC-1 there is quite a bit of distortion and you can definitely hear an echo if you are on the other end. I may have been able to overlook this a bit more if the price was a bit cheaper but as it is just shy of £80 I personally expect a better experience.
Taking a look at the price and I personally can not help but to feel it is a bit overpriced. While it does offer decent sound performance it is nothing spectacular and it’s call functionality really let it down. If the price was between £10-£20 it would of course be a lot better value and more recommendable.
Taking everything into consideration and the AcoustiPhase MC-1 walks away with our bronze award.
I would like to thank AcoustiPhase for sending the MC-1 in for review and look forward to seeing more from them in the future.
Summary
The MC-1 definitely does what it says on the box. It offers a good music experience with a decent battery life for it’s size. The one thing I feel lets it down is when using the mic for a phone call, the quality could be much better and if this is important to you, you may want to pass this one on. If the price was a bit less it would definitely be worth a look.
