Closer Look
Getting everything out of the box and we can immediately see the HD5W comes packed inside its waterproof casing. As mentioned, Kitvision is great with including accessories with their cameras, they have included bicycle, helmet and a couple of standard flat sticky mounts to get users up and running. The HD5W is also easily mounted onto a tripod or monopod with the included accessories.
The waterproof casing is good for a depth up to 60m, this should be more than sufficient for general usage in pools, or, for a nice day out at the beach. It also means that if you want to use it in the rain that will be fine as well. While the case is waterproof, there are still buttons so users will be able to make use off all the camera functions without the need to take the HD5W out of its casing. Also, the casing is easily removed by sliding one clip on the top, then lifting it up in another place, these are marked with little triangles.
Getting the HD5W out of its waterproof casing and it is rather small, which is good! On the front, we have the lens and a power/mode button that will allow users to turn the camera on and filter through the menu. We can also see the escape logo in the bottom left, with a WiFi logo in the bottom right. On the back is the display screen so you can see exactly what you are capturing and a pair of LED indicators.
Taking a look at the sides and on one, we have the HDMI input for streaming to a TV, Micro SD which will be used as storage for all your videos and photos and the USB input to charge the HD5W. On the other side we have a pair of buttons that will allow users to navigate through the menu; one of these also doubles as the WiFi button.
On the top is where users will find the record button that will be used to start and stop video recording as well as take photos. The bottom of the HD5W has a small removable cover that once taken off, allows access to the battery which is also removable.
