The App
The app is free to download for iOS or Android and enables you to unlock the full features of the Rhythm. It is made up of five main tabs with the first tab, the home screen, showing you the live feed from the Rhythm. At the time of taking the screenshot I had a heart rate of 85! It’s from this screen you can then record your session, which will provide various information such as average pulse, distance, speed etc.
The second tab is where you set up your activities, this allows you to create goals and whether you want to use GPS, which you can use for plotting your route if you’re out and about. For the purpose of testing, I created a new profile called “Gaming”, where I turned the GPS off and set no goal.
The middle tab is where you can create playlists of your music which you can then control the playback using the buttons on the Rhythm itself – quite a nice little feature if you’re out running.
The fourth tab presents you with a monthly calender style layout, enabling you to see your various workout across the month. You can then select the workouts to review the various stats. In this case, I monitored my heart rate during a game of DotA2, which was fairly intense as you can tell by the increased heart rate and high average bpm! A slight inaccuracy with the app however, is where it approximates the calories burnt, as there is no way I demolished 483 calories in under an hour of little movement – unless of course all my key presses and mouse movements really add up – highly unlikely of course!
The last tab is the settings tab, where you can input your various personal details, such as height, weight, gender etc. so it can give you a more accurate reading. A nice part of the app is that it can tie in with other fitness tracking apps like MyFitnessPal and Nike’s own app.
