[section_title title=Performance]Performance
To test the performance of the Netgear R6300 router, I have devised a simple testing methodology to test the quality of signals at different distances and through obstacles using my Google Nexus 7 Tablet (2.4GHz wireless). To test the quality, I ran Speedtest (www.speedtest.net) and took down each result from the following locations:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 1m away from router
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 5m away from router
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 15m away from router (Through 2 walls)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 25m away from router (Though 3 walls)
The internet connection wired reads as follows:
Ping – 5ms
D/L Speed – 112.97Mbps
U/L Speed – 11.26Mbps
Now it’s time to test the router…
1 metre away from router:
Ping – 17
D/L Speed – 36.35Mbps
U/L Speed – 11.55Mbps
5 metres away from router:
Ping – 18
D/L Speed – 32.71Mbps
U/L Speed – 11.23Mbps
15 metres away from router:
Ping – 15ms
D/L Speed – 20.61Mbps
U/L Speed – 11.35Mbps
25 metres away from router:
Ping – 17ms
D/L Speed – 21.07Mbps
U/L Speed – 7.94Mbps
Compared with the performance of the router we previously reviewed (TP Link Archer C7), although the network can fluctuate in terms of ping/speeds, the real improvement over the (insert here) is how good the quality of the Wi-Fi is. 20+ Mbps download speeds are impressive on a tablet when you are standing 25m away in the rain and wind (no Nexus 7’s were harmed in the creation of this review); impressive feat!
