Testing

For testing the Lapdog I opted to integrate my K70 RGB RAPID, which is a full-sized keyboard. Corsair have included compatibility for this keyboard and the K65 (TKL version), however the STRAFE and others will not fit as snugly – or even at all (I did try with my Cooler Master QuickFire XTi). The mouse of choice was the Corsair SABRE RGB – an incredibly light mouse, making it perfect to use with the Lapdog.

The setup was easy to achieve; the supplied Lapdog instruction manual was simple and to the point, enabling me to quickly take it apart (using the supplied tool) and fit the keyboard and mouse. The only minor difficulty I experienced was getting the thick, stiff braided cables to stay put – I wasn’t quite ready to zip-tie them into place just yet.

When installed, I first opted to use the Lapdog from my computer chair, albeit 3 metres away from the screens. This enabled me to play around with various settings on my computer, mouse and keyboard. After tweaking a few configurations within Windows 10 (scaling font/icon size up), I had it at a comfortable setting so I could use the PC at a distance.

Taking the Lapdog to the living room was a piece of cake, simply unplug and move! The only difficulty I can see with the portability of the Lapdog is the lack of a support to hold the mouse to the surface/side: they’re designed to have minimum friction on the mouse pad, so it was sliding all over the place when I was moving it around. When plugged into my small media PC and wall socket (not always required), I was able to sit comfortably on my sofa and navigate windows with ease, using my normal keyboard and mouse. I even plugged my headset into the USB port and used that for watching movies.

The Lapdog was created for gaming, so naturally I put it through it’s paces playing a number of game genres – just like I would with any other I/O device. Hands down it felt great to play FPS games with a proper mouse and keyboard – the lack of wireless meant that there was minimum delay in movement and key presses – although of course, being wired did mean a great thick cable spanning my living room. The large mouse pad was very similar to what I use at my desk, so provided plenty of room. Due to having it on my lap, a wrist rest wasn’t required and it remained very comfortable during hours of use.

For general use it was great to be able to type up the majority of this review from the other side of the room in comfort, with my dog asleep next to me and a beer on the side table – perfect!
