Corsair CUE Software
Behind every great bit of hardware, is a great bit of software doing just as much of the work, but this is usually unsung and quite frankly forgotten about. Enter the Corsair CUE Software or Corsair Utility Engine if you don’t like acronyms. My first true experience with the CUE software package was a great one, easily found on the Corsair website and of course, offers tons of options for customising the experience to your liking.
First of all, the main screen is catered directly for the audio settings, no hunting them out; they are there in your face ready to be used! We have 5 different audio pre-sets available which include Pure Direct, Bass Boost, FPS Competition, Clear Chat and Movie Theatre; all of these are self-explanatory to their key EQ balance etc. You can also choose to turn Dolby’s 7.1 Surround Sound on or off (it’s set to off as standard). This provides a much more immersive and realistic representation of audio and for music, it simply kicks proverbial bum! You can also play around with the EQ settings manually if you are experienced enough to get your desired sound; something I guarantee the VOID range to give you in some shape or form!
On the same page (different tab), you can also comprehensively adjust the lighting settings for your Corsair VOID USB and Wireless headsets; sorry, the Stereo version isn’t RGB compatible! Such light modes including single blink, rainbow pulse and double blink are available, but if you’re like me, you will just stick with the simple solid colour! Simple things for simple men! You can also alter the intervals, brightness settings as well as being indicated to how much battery is left; it flashes violently when you need to charge the VOID Wireless!
Here you can select from up to 16.8 million different colours to customise your RGB headsets to your specified…well colours! You can save colours, or select from basic colours already pre-set, but the option is there to get a little fancy and custom if the mood takes you.
The settings section allows for users to customise the CUE software itself with features like enable SDK, Start on system start up (recommended) and of course enabling that 16.8 million colour RGB mode; very handy to know! A list of supported media players installed are also present, which gives you the knowledge that your headset works fine; only if you are listening to music or watching a film/TV show etc.
Last, but not least is the device settings. This allows you to update your Corsair peripherals firmware which can be handy if a new feature is released, or of course if there is a known issue and offers a pain free fix; I like to keep the firmware of all my peripherals up to date, so this tool is very handy indeed!
Overall the Corsair CUE software is very easy to use, very intuitive and more importantly, it’s intelligent enough to allow you to link up other compatible Corsair peripherals or products for one hell of an immersive experience; it makes you feel in control, which is a damn sight better feeling than being controlled, or limited by a products capability. The CUE is the first software from Corsair that I have actually made a point of “praising” and it’s a really big step in their brand as a peripheral company! Top praise from me!
