Conclusion
So what’s the deal with Corsairs latest range of gaming headsets, namely VOID? Do they offer fulfilment, enjoyment and satisfaction? Or do they offer little in the way of improvement over the Vengeance range of audio gear? Well take the last statement off the table as all 3 of these are decently made, great sounding and not to prawny on the pocket. Of course each has its own benefit and appeals to 3 different types of user; something which I believe is a great tactic and offers a tiered solution to pricing and availability.
First of all, the Corsair VOID Stereo gaming headset offers not only PC/MAC support, but also support for consoles including Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and even the Xbox One; although you will need to purchase an adapter for the latest Microsoft console. On top of that, it actually sounds pretty good all-round for a stereo headset with exceptional versatility. The mid-tone might be a little bit muddy and the bass not as highly impacting as the other 2 VOID headsets on test, this still proves its worth as a good quality gaming stereo headset that is priced as good as it looks.
Moving onto the Corsair VOID USB Dolby 7.1 RGB gaming headset, this one is probably a little step up from the stereo version on quality; until you activate the virtual Dolby 7.1 that is! That is where this headset comes into its element for music, movies, but gaming? I wasn’t too keen on it and I’m too accustomed to regular audio for that etc. That being said, although not given dedicated sound card support, for those wanting a simple plug and play alternative which would give ANY sub £100 gaming headset a run for their money, then the VOID USB version has to be considered when looking for a new headset. RGB has become a big thing in peripherals over the last year and Corsair have done a great job in my opinion of continuing the trend; even if it offers no performance gains whatsoever, it’s just new and fresh.
Last, but certainly not least, we have my personal highlight, the Corsair VOID Wireless Dolby 7.1 RGB gaming headset. This is an interesting one for me personally as it has good sound quality, fantastic bass response and what’s best about it is, it’s WIRELESS! The first gaming headset I have used that has actually deserved to be worn again and for the last week, I side-lined my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros in favour of the VOID Wireless. Activating Dolby also does what it says on the tin and like my opinions on the VOID USB model, this is a top quality gaming headset. It is a little on the expensive side, so probably not for the bargain hunter, but it’s true what they say “once you go wireless, you never go wired”. Coming from an avid PC gamer, a couple of years ago I would have laughed at you if you gave me a wireless headset. Fast forward to today and I’m praising it! That alone should be a good testament to how good the Corsair VOID Wireless headset is, not just for music, or gaming, but for everything PC or MAC relating to audio.
Summing up the new Corsair VOID gaming headset range, each of them has a lot going for the new Corsair Gaming brand and unlike some of the previous models, they don’t feel like rebadged headsets, but brand new faces taking you to brand new places! Yes, the Stereo might have slightly muddy mid-range during some music, but does that make it a bad headset? Hell no! The VOID USB has slightly less versatile connectivity than the Stereo, but it’s still a solid gaming headset with solid build quality and solid audio quality; it also competes on price with other brands which is another plus point. The VOID Wireless however is my standout headset from the bunch as it hasn’t only given me a solution to having a wire tickling my ear or getting tangled around my forearm when guitaring, but it’s shown me wireless technology is good for gaming, regardless of what you might think.
With all that being said, I would like to award ALL THREE Corsair VOID headsets our gold award and our recommended award. I think I justify it rightly that each of these 3 different Corsair offerings offers something different and although RGB isn’t new technology, it’s still fresh on the minds of consumers. The only niggle is the mic mute notification light on the USB and Wireless version; I couldn’t see if it was on or off without physically twisting it around…other than that, the Corsair VOID gaming headset range is sugary sweet…
Thanks to Corsair for sending in their VOID range for review.
