Software
“Everything you can do, I can do better” or so the song goes, and while it’s true that you don’t need the software to use the keyboard or the majority of its plethora of functions it really does help, especially if you want to tweak that macro that you’ve just typed in. Whether it’s adjusting the timing between various keystrokes or changing the middle of a macro completely the software really comes in handy. Yes, you could just type is all again with the correct keys in the right place and the exact timing down to 1000th of a second, or you could just type in the timings in the software. Another tweak you can make with macros is the option to repeat macros either a set number of times, while the key is pressed or until next pressed (think autofire).
Next on the software list is the option to replace keys with a different key so if you have fat fingers and often hit multiple keys when trying to collect that sword in Skyrim you can set them all to the same letter and accomplish the task by mashing your fist on the keyboard enthusiastically, well, you get the idea.
Something else you can only do with the software next and that is to change any key so that it launches a program. I’d very much like this to be a combo like Shift+F9 so that you retain full keyboard functionality but alas it’s single key only. Still, it’s very useful since you can set it to a profile you don’t otherwise use and swap between them to do the launching.
If you are really lazy then after using one profile to launch your essential programs you can then set up another profile to take over automatically. even if you are not using the Launch Program capability this is really handy… Set up a few profiles for your favourite games with all their macros and key assignments and then switch to them automatically so you don’t have to remember which profile goes with which game. Anything that makes life easier and takes up less memory in the system or the user is a good thing in my book.
Anytime we are distracted in a game or in work it’s annoying, but in pro gaming or high stakes offices it can be devastating. Hitting the wrong ky at the wrong time can be the difference between promotion and getting dropped from your team, especially if it happens a lot. Well simply turn off those keys that you often hit accidentally with the Disable function and use Key Assignment to map them to the other side of the keyboard if they are needed occasionally. That way you can stay focused and game on.
The last areas of interest pretty much speak for themselves. Default will ask if you are sure that you want to set that selected key to its default, yes or no, and Profile Reset will reset the profile to its default… No pop-up dialogue boxes here though and no second chances… if you press that button all settings are back to factory spec and you have to start again as far as that profile goes.
