[section_title title=”Closer Look”]Closer Look
Lets start off with a front on look at the mouse.
As you can see the Gandiva is quite a unique looking mouse, which is a polite way of expressing that I think this is one of the most ugly mice I’ve ever seen. We can see the big scroll wheel in the middle that looks almost like a car tyre, and just above it the two DPI switches.
Taking a look at the top of the mouse the first thing we notice is the metallic silver finish which actually looks fairly nice. The Tesoro logo seen here lights up, along with all the gaps between the panels and the DPI indicator which can be seen just underneath the left mouse button. Between the two mouse buttons is a DPI toggle button, which considering we already have two DPI buttons seems a bit of a waste but it is re programmable at least.
The right hand side of the mouse is devoid of any real points of interest, just a flat slab of plastic all the way along that angles in towards the rear of the mouse. We can notice the lined coating on the mouse buttons though which is presumably to enhance grip.
Moving on to the left hand side of the mouse there is a bit more to talk about. We have two thumb buttons and a better look at the DPI indicator. This side also features a bit of a lip to support the thumb but really it needs to stick out much further to be useful.
The underside of the mouse shows the massive gap between the two sides of the front of the mouse. As you can see the sensor is oddly off to one side due to there presumably not being room to locate it more centrally. To me this seems to exemplify my feelings that the Gandiva is more about form than function which is never a design ethos that appeals to me. We can see the feet on the four corners of the mouse and there are also various certification logos adorning the part where the sensor should be.
Finally we have the connector which is Tesoro branded and features a gold plated contact. We can also see the cable features quite a nice quality braid which is always good to see.
Well, I won’t spoil the conclusion here but in my opinion this is probably one of the most aesthetically unappealing products I’ve ever seen. To my eyes its a tacky design and really not something I would buy on looks alone. Lets move on and take a look at the software.
