[section_title title=”Performance”]Performance

As usual for mice, I will split the performance side of things into the three sections which I feel deserve equal and thorough mention.

Ergonomics

From a design point of view the Gandiva is of the right handed claw variety but it’s definitely on the larger side as far as claw grip mice go. When it comes to comfort the Gandiva is pretty unremarkable in my opinion, I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was uncomfortable but it isn’t particularly nice to use either.

The angular design is clearly intended more for aesthetics than comfort and as such it ends up feeling very average in the comfort department, the thumb pad on the left hand side doesn’t stick out far enough to actually support your thumb at all and the complete lack of texture or any kind of support on the right hand side for your spare fingers all culminates in the fact that the mouse just doesn’t feel ‘right’ to me, there are much better options out there if you want a claw grip mouse at this price point when it comes to comfort.

Buttons

When it comes to the buttons the mouse one and two buttons themselves are actually fairly good, after a couple of days the switches loosened up a bit and now have a fairly nice responsive click to them with a nice medium length stroke.

The scroll wheel is nice and grippy too with its rubberised coating however it could do with a bit more resistance in my opinion. The thumb buttons are also fairly good with a reasonable click to them however the DPI +/-buttons feel cheap and the DPI toggle switch isn’t much better however this is forgiveable as you don’t use them as much.

Tracking

The Gandiva uses the popular Avago 9800. Personally I’m not much of a fan of laser sensors in general but the implementation here seems to be particularly good at creating my biggest gripe which is a high lift off distance. Even on the lowest setting in the driver the lift off height is too high for me, I think it is made worse by the less than ideal ergonomics of the mouse making it tricky to pick it up at a consistent angle.

Aside from the lift off distance I have no complaints about the tracking, but of course being a claw grip mouse you are more likely to lift it than a palm grip mouse so the fairly high lift off distance is a bit of a deal breaker for me personally.

Another mixed bag here then, lets wrap up with a conclusion.
