Zowie is a fairly young company still, having only set up in 2008. They aren’t trying to shift Razer level volume either, they state explicitly that they do not wish to be the biggest peripheral manufacturer; so what is their goal? Perfection is what they claim it to be, and if the hype of consumers and professional gamers alike is to believed that they are getting pretty damn close.
Last year Zowie released the FK1 which was an update of the FK line that featured the superb Pixart 3310, that turned out to be a fantastic pairing as the mouse was highly praised by reviewers and consumers alike. However, it did leave the EC series feeling a bit unloved as they hadn’t been updated for some time and since the FK1 came out many EC owners have been crying out for an FK1 style update to the EC series.
Today is a great day for those people then, as Zowie have just launched the EC1-A and EC2-A which are two new mice that pack the solid EC ergonomics, but with a shiny new 3310 sensor and the new style Zowie logo.
So, evolution not revolution; but that is where Zowie really shines as a peripheral manufacturer, they listen to what gamers and enthusiasts want unlike some larger manufacturers whose marketing departments force them to crap out 8200 DPI laser mice with shiny lights that kind of work but don’t stop the mice from being painfully average.
Anyway, as usual, I’m rambling so let’s make a start on the review and see if the new EC1-A is another home run for Zowie that can live up to the considerable expectations of consumers after the perfectly executed FK series updates.
