What has been added to the combat for Black Flag firstly is the free aim, you no longer NEED a target to shoot something anymore. This means that shooting is actually a little bit harder now too, as before it would automatically lock on, now you have to aim quick and try and get the shot off. Edward also gets blow darts and rope darts, blow darts are personally my favourite as you can use them quickly to knock out an enemy that is on high ground in an enemy compound, so you don’t need to figure a way to get up there unnoticed by the bunch of enemies surrounding the area.
Now that there are ships, they have made it a free roam ship, you can go wherever you want within the diameters of the games map. This is pretty awesome as before you could only go certain places with AC III’s ship, now you have the right to go and explore the seven seas… or one really!Ā They also have added naval combat on your ship called the Jackdaw, you will get to shoot cannons from the ships sides, empty barrels out the back and use the mini cannons to shoot them to cause damage to a ship trying to chase you down. You can also shoot cannon balls connected with a chain from the front when approaching an enemy to give a bit of damage. My favourite has to be the added mortar shots that you can use, they are perfect when approaching a compound in your ship that you are tasked with taking down, nothing gives me more pleasure than taking out a ship with a well timed mortar! You can upgrade the jackdaw too, adding things like new masts, rams, round shot, heat shot, etc, to completely make the ship your own.
This time around there is no Desmond Miles, YAYYYYYY, still though you have to play as an Abstergo Analyst. This rather sucks as I can’t really be bothered with having to pop out every so often to do some rubbish futuristic piece of the story, thankfully though they are few and far between, so you’re not always stuck doing it.
The multiplayer with Black Flag hasn’t really revolutionised much, and gives you all the same modes as before. What is different though, players can make their own game modes with default and Game Lab modes to share with friends which is pretty awesome and allows the gamers to mix it up a little themselves, I’m sure however this does open the multiplayer to hackers in some way.
