Introduction

Welcome to another Lifestyle review! These reviews showcase some of the coolest gadgets, and everyday products that really help you out in your general day to day life. From bags to portable batteries, play3r’s got you covered. Today we take a closer look at the Power Practical Lithium 4400, a portable battery designed to provide other benefits than simply charging devices.

The Lithium 4400 has a steady 1A output which is fast enough to charge most devices, however on some portable batteries we can see a huge 2.1A output which is sometimes required to give those larger devices a quick boost. But the Power Practical Lithium 4400 is designed to charge smaller devices like phones and not tablets.

  • Charge Capacity: 4400 mAh
  • Charge Time: 4.5 Hours
  • Input: 5W (5V,1A)
  • Output: 5W (5V,1A)
  • Weight: 120 g (4.2 oz)
  • Dimensions: 8.8 cm x 5.1 cm x 2.6 cm(3.5 in x 2 in x 1 in

The device itself is made out of plastic that feels a little brittle, however it stood up well to our everyday tests, which consist of using the device for anywhere up to a week. I received the Power Practical Lithium 4400 before departing for a week in the Peak District so the device actually came around on walks, and on bike rides. Unlike some larger portable batteries like the Jackery Giant it was a nice change to easily carry it around. The device is easy and straightforward to use, with a simple toggle switch that allows the device to change between charging the device connected via the USB port or using the “lantern”. You can also read the level of power left using the LEDS on the device ranging from 100% to 0%, each LED that is lit indicates 25%.

The Power Practical Lithium 4400 also serves as a “lantern” using the same LEDS that indicate the level of charge remaining in the device, which is an interesting way to double up the functionality. Obviously the device uses LEDS that aren’t focused in any particular direction, so you’ll never get the same beam of light a flashlight would provide. But the amount of light it does provide is incredible and will easily allow you to find objects in the dark. Because this product was tested in the Peak districts it was actually used for this function to navigate some of the paths later on at night, and to find my way around caverns. I have to admit the device is simply amazing for those that require a device to offer both lighting and power on the go. The actual battery life for using the lantern is great, with anywhere up to 30 hours of illumination.

Moving on to the devices capacity, you have 4400mAh of power to play around with. With most portable batteries the conversion of power through the battery into the connected device can sometimes see a percentage lost. Some energy is lost via heat generation and the conversion process, usually this is around 30%. Sometimes batteries will offer a slightly higher efficiency but it does vary. The Power Practical Lithium 4400 performed quite well charging my Moto G test phone to capacity whilst providing a little extra left just in case, giving close to the quoted capacity minus 30%.

Overall the device is something I would recommend to anyone, obviously there are so many products on the market. But I feel the Power Practical device is one that is nice to use on a day to day basis, and provides a decent charge with the added bonus of the handy lantern which is quoted to last up to thirty hours.
