Conclusion

Now we will conclude our findings of the P614 premium headphones with in-line microphone from Arctic, a low mid level headset with a price tag of under £40.

In all honesty, we weren’t expecting much from this headset for the price and fairly normal specification. Nothing really stood out as being a main selling point to us and certainly something we wouldn’t pick up in a shop on a whim to try out. With this said, once we used the headset and really bedded it in, it was a shock. It performed from the second it was plugged in to this moment, as I write this review, as it pumps out nice solid bass that shakes the skull! It was a pleasure to have such a comfortable and light headset hug my head softly while I played games and listened to music. Arctic really have worked well to provide comfort, even with the little niggles as previously detailed, in a compact product.

Performance wise, again I was shocked to see the P614 boom bass with a nice vibration heard in better quality tracks and generally nothing seemed to lack. Don’t expect studio quality for this price as for obvious reasons the headset is very restrictive and aimed more towards those on more of a budget. Having said that, aside from some sloppy notes here and there that did not seem to be as crisp on some songs as others, we would be happy paying a little more for said item and think Arctic have under-shot the RRP on this device.

Build quality was outstanding on this product, nothing felt cheap with no annoying plastic creaks or clear damage after rough handling and transport. Every section of this headset has clearly been thought out through the development stages, paying off and presenting itself in the P614. Metal components are proper metal and not cheap pot/cast materials, all plastic has been cut to a high specification without a blemish anywhere. Every little detail goes a long way to developing a good product, aesthetically the P614 was pleasing to use and handle, so well done to Arctic on that front. The only thing we could fault, which has been covered previously, is additional padding in the headband to allow the headset to sit a little higher but become much more comfortable.

The multi-platform transition was very easy and required no drivers at all. Simply plug and play, using the relevant headphone converter for platforms that require it and removing it when not needed. With use on many platforms, this ability opens the doors for gamers of many different gaming systems to be able to use it as well as music lovers to enjoy their favorite tracks no matter the system.

So, is the P614 worth the price tag? How does it compare to similar specification headsets and would it win my heart? Overall, I have to say that the Arctic premium P614 headset performed well for an item of this price range and specification. No corners were cut when developing and manufacturing this headset. Performance, build quality and the headset in general has shocked me, in a good way, as I didn’t expect the power from such a small device. Again, is it worth it? I think so and many of my friends, whom I asked to test this device out for a few minutes, think so. Why not give it a go yourself and be amazed at the performance coming from this nippy little headset.
