Performance and Testing

We will now look a little deeper into the performance and additional factors of the headset to see what we think of them. For a mid level price tag, we are expecting a fairly moderate level of performance, especially with the 50mm Neodymium-magnet strapped to each side of our head!

So, after a consistent 5 hours long session and a total of 20 hours use, we have put these headphones through some rough testing. A variation of bass, treble, volume increments in both increase and decrease stages were used as well as a variation of all to check for any fluctuation in performance or any black areas that suggest to us that the headset could not withstand what we threw at it. The headset and microphone were tested on multiple platforms too in order to see if the multi-platform compatibility was up to scratch.

Comfort

Headband

The VOID Hybrid offers a luxurious amount of comfort and it is needed for gaming with such a large headset as this. The main areas of contact for this and most headsets is the earphones and headband, of which are both made from a foam filled breathable material. The headband is adjustable so the headset can be well-balanced on the user’s head, ensuring a snug fit. The earphones being made of the same foam filled material as the headband keep a good seal around the ear, ensuring that audio isn’t lost when traveling from driver to the user’s ear canal. We were surprised at how light, once on the head, the VOID is and that makes for easy use over prolonged sessions. The size does seem to suddenly dawn on you once putting on or removing it but while in use, you have nothing to fear as overall the headset is a comfortable piece of kit. The twisting capabilities of ear earphone means that the VOID Hybrid can be adjusted per ear to the correct tilt and again, allow for a better fit.

Sound Quality

Testing was on a variety of high quality.WAV,.MP4 and other HRA files as well as a variation of platforms, from smartphones to PC’s. Specification wise, the VOID Hybrid is fairly impressive for a stereo/Dolby Adjustable 7.1 based headset and real world performance shows the true dedication that the R&D team has put into making this a very well performing piece of hardware. 50 mm drivers are strapped to either side of a comfortable headset, producing an impedance of 32k Ohms @ 1 kHz, frequency response of 20Hz – 20 kHz and all packaged up in quite a compact size for what is on offer. But, what does that mean in the real world? It should mean the headset is a very good piece of kit, but we have to say, the VOID Hybrid was VERY impressive once put on and in action. Highs are high, lows are low, bass booms and some tracks leave a nice tingle down your spine as you get intertwined with the audio provided by this engineering masterpiece.

To elaborate a little bit, the headset is a stereo based platform but offers a Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound adapter to expand the true capabilities of the VOID Hybrid on platforms that accept a USB. This has confused a lot of people recently and with the introduction of this product, we hope to help you understand what the “Hybrid” part of VOID Hybrid means. The 4 poll 3.5mm jack allows for stereo based audio on devices that support said output but mix in the specially provided adapter and the true performing power of the Hybrid shines through.

Microphone Quality

Microphone

The boom microphone provided with the Corsaid VOID Hybrid headset is the primary device for audio pick-up and is hard-rooted to the headset so no removal is possible. Featuring a uni-directional pickup pattern, impedance of 2.2k Ohms, -37dB (+/-3dB) sensitivity range and 100Hz to 10kHz frequency response, you can’t ask for more when it comes to performance microphones in a gaming headset of this price range. Communication was crisp, detectability of microphone usage when using software like Teamspeak and in-game pick ups was on the dot and noticeably professional.

General Gaming

We focused on general gaming for testing this headset as lets face it, it is a gaming headset with a lot of potential in those specifications. For gaming use, we tested the headset on a variety of games and software most commonly used with games, like Steam Chat, Skype and Teamspeak. We found the boom microphone to be a shining article here and performed very well on all platforms that we threw at it. Audio was literally perfect and made for a very immersive experience overall, from explosions to AI commands. Even just the small things, like playing competitive Counter Strike: Global Offensive, footsteps stood out and provided a nice advantage on those sneaky maneuvers. As far as a gaming headset, the Corsair VOID Hybrid takes audio to the next level and made my gaming experience much more enjoyable with crisp audio to go along with my stunning visuals. Overall, the Corsair VOID is a stunning example as to how gaming headsets should be built.
