Closer Look

So lets get into it them and take a proper look at what the Gear4 Soundwave is along with how it’s presented.

Gear4 Soundwave box front

The speaker is packaged well in a simple box with a good view of the product inside instead of photoshopped visuals. Very little information is shown on the front and top of the box, just the branding and some simple advice that it is wireless with Bluetooth connectivity.

Gear4 Soundwave box back

The back of the box is where you find a little more about the speaker, that it’s got a six hour lithium-ion battery and bluetooth connectivity as well as a line-in audio port and passive bass, etc. The contents are also listed and all this info is repeated in a few Euro languages.

Gear4 Soundwave front

When we get inside the box we can clearly see the simple, slightly wavy lines across the front grill and the Grat4 branding on the front.

Gear4 Soundwave back

The back and all surrounding sides has a very tactile soft touch finish to the plastic that you find yourself touching a lot more than necessary when you first get it, well, I did anyway. The few areas of interest on the back are the on/off sliding switch, 5v micro-USB charging port and the 3.5mm audio jack for receiving non-bluetooth audio, say from a TV or CD player.

Gear4 Soundwave top

The top has track control buttons for back and forward as well as separate volume control buttons, so no more holding a button and counting to get the right effect. There’s a power / charging LED and a pause/play button apart from the rest.

Gear4 Soundwave accessories

Accessories are a simple affair. The instruction booklet tells you how to use the Soundwave speaker but give very little information about what it’s made of or any technical information at all. You have a charging cable which is USB to micro-USB as  well as a 3.5mm audio cable. No gold plating here, it’s all just simple, functional and cheap.

Well, that is about all to say about the product until it’s turned on and played with, so lets move on to Testing and Performance.
