Conclusion

Overall, I am very impressed with the overall results from using the Homeplugs. They performed a lot better than I expected them to. They are also extremely easy to use, with no configuration required, again brilliant especially if you are a novice user.

The packaging was user-friendly, technical jargon is kept to a minimum. These devices are good for up to 1200Mbps – certainly a big improvement over earlier devices and have a range of up to 300 metres, so will work in almost any environment. Although your individual results may vary depending on how you use them.

The fact these are Gigabit ready is nice, you won’t have to worry about upgrading anytime soon if you do purchase them. I will quite happily continue using mine rather than risking potentially unstable Wi-Fi upstairs and have no hesitation in recommending these to you.

If you want to connect more than one device using these, then you’ll need to purchase the model with 3 ethernet ports. I’ve seen some people using a switch plugged into one of these but with mixed results. So if you need to extra capacity you’re better off just buying the correct device. However, these plugs would be excellent for adding a remote PC such as a server in a separate room at home or the office.

  • Gold award – We are used to seeing TP-Link bringing some quality products the table and the AV1200 is no exception to those high standards. Zero configuration, 128bit AES Encryption, pass-through power socket and a massive 85% power save mode, means that the product is both secure and easy to use. Not to forget up to 1200Mbs speed meaning the device will fit in well with any home environment and is ideal for streaming in HD or light/moderate gaming.

Aesthetically pleasing, works very well, with zero configuration means I give our Gold Award. Good job guys

A huge thank you for TP-Link for sending me the AV1200 to review and I look forward to seeing more of their products in the near future.

Summary

These are aesthetically pleasing, easy to use with zero config. Although they may not be suitable for all locations. But a good product none the less.
