[section_title title=”Closer Look”]Closer Look
Let start off by getting a look at the front of the mouse.
A front on look at the mouse gives the impression it is going to be very angular like the G502 and more modern looking than the traditional G400/G500 front end. The rubberised scroll wheel is hardly even there, but as you’ll read later its still rather good. On the right hand side of the picture you can see the G7 and G8 buttons, by default these are used to adjust DPI on the fly.
Moving to the rear of the mouse we can see the rest of it follows a more traditional shape that anyone who has owned a G500 or G400 will recognize, this shape really is a case of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, for those with big hands this classic shape is ideal, for me personally it reminded me how much I missed the shape after retiring my G500 last month. This shape is simply a reference level ergonomic achievement.
Moving on to the right hand side first and we can see the finger rest has a grooved finish, and the material itself is a very grippy rubberised surface which is a nod to the G series’ focus on science with the use of such a tactile material.
The left hand side is where the real points of interest are. We have our two dpi switches at the top left, below them we have three clear windows that display the DPI setting and below that again we have the sniper or accuracy button which is becoming increasingly popular on FPS mice. Finally in the middle of this side we have the two thumb buttons which are a fairly standard affair.
The underside of the G402 is fairly routine, in the middle we have our optical sensor which is flanked around the edges by the smooth gliding feet. The only complaint I have here is the glossy finish which will mark easily.
Finally we have our connector which is not quite a standard rectangular connector but it is not especially interesting either. I am disappointed by the lack of a braided cable, which seems a glaring omission at this price point.
Overall though, I really like the stealthy design of the G402. Head over to the next page for a look at the features of the Logitech gaming software.
