So now I have had roughly a week to get used to the Scuf Gaming Hybrid controller for Xbox 360/PC, what are my overall thoughts on it?  Is it gaming controller revolution and does it offer better performance over a standard controller?  Well here goes…

Starting with what I would consider to be the performance, the Scuf Hybrid is absolutely phenomenal and I can personally see why they have developed such a fantastic reputation in a short space of time.  From the trigger stoppers which really do make a difference in FPS games, to the paddles which allow another dimension to be used in conjunction with the regular 4 buttons (X, Y, A and B).  What also made it a very enjoyable experience for me was the amount of grip on the rear of the controller compared to standard/official controllers; this made playing for long periods of time comfortable and all that more enjoyable.

Design wise, the Scuf Hybrid is also as good as it performs; it looks absolutely stunning (well this particular sample).  It has a very nice finish, the black and white contrast of the controller and buttons itself is really striking and even the word Hybrid on the bottom of the pad looks sublime.  One fantastic thing about Scuf Gaming controllers is the ability to pretty much give you the perfect controller and they even do fully colour/design work by request which further adds positive points to Scuf as a company.  With this particular sample, the rear has a rain/wet effect look which when I initially posted a glimpse on our Facebook page, it received good comments about realism and in the flesh, it couldn’t be more wrong; top job Scuf.

Touching more on the customisable options from Scuf themselves, the Hybrid can come with 2 or 4 paddles depending on your preference, trigger stops for FPS games and a plethora of colours/pattern options which makes it virtually impossible to run out of ideas with.  This service has to be worth a shout-out and I am un-aware of any other major company that offers this level of service; it is also available on their other range of controllers also!

Last but not least we come to the price, which for this particular sample comes in at around £120 including the right thumb stick customisation, the included Scuf grip, the trigger stops and the 4 paddles which do obviously add to the cost of the controller.  This is an insane amount of money for a game controller and although competitive gamers would have no issues in paying that kind of money, I don’t think regular consumers/gamers honestly would.  When it comes down to the question if I would spend the money after using one, then yes, I actually would but I would obviously go with a fully custom Play3r design.  There are obviously cheaper non official controllers on the market but I would challenge anyone to find out as superior, good quality and as fantastic as a Scuf Hybrid!

The price might not be up to much but the quality sure is and combined with the gorgeous aesthetics, Scuf Gaming have a clear winner with their Hybrid controller and if you have a bit of spare cash, don’t need an upgrade on your PC then you should consider spending your money on one of these!

Huge thanks to Scuf Gaming for sending the sample in for review and I look forward to seeing more in the near future.

Summary

The Scuf Gaming Hybrid controller not only offers near unlimited amount of personal customisation, but it performs like a true champion. The paddles and trigger stops add a whole new dimension to FPS shooters and for those who are die hard gamers, make sure one of these babies are on your shopping list.
