Gameplay is where this game both falls short of expectations AND surprises me in a few ways too. I did actually like the gun play in The Division, albeit because it reminded me a lot of Spec Ops: The Line, but I think the way it plays suits the atmosphere you’re in, especially with the recoil of the guns. There are a lot of guns in this game too, I believe there are around 60 different guns, and obviously they go in tiers too, so that puts the number of guns in the hundreds at this point which makes sense with it basically being a kind of MMO. The gun tiers go like so:
Grey – Common
Green – Uncommon
Blue – Rare
Purple – Epic
Orange – Legendary
My favourite part of this game is the gun customization, your guns can have all kinds of mods added to mould the gun to your style. The mods that you can put onto your guns also come in the same tiers as the guns themselves so finding the best will take your probably a lot longer than finding the best gun itself sadly… Clothing isn’t usually something I’m too bothered about in games, if it’s the best stats, I’ll wear it, but in The Division, you wear what you like because it doesn’t affect your stats at all. My personal style is to make my guy look as much like a character from Sons of Anarchy as possible (basically Opie).
In your base of operations you are given different wings to unlock and upgrade throughout your time playing. This is something you should pick carefully when playing because it gives your perks for going out in that cold harsh place, I will give it to Ubisoft that rather a lot has been added to ensure that you don’t just get the best gun and be done with it. There is genuine work that goes into creating a really good character in this game.
Now we move onto the Dark Zones… This is the PvP area of the game, this is where you go to find the best loot available in the game. If you think you’ll find a legendary item easily in the normal game, this might not be the game for you, going into the Dark Zones is important to get what you essentially need later in the game. Being careful in the Dark Zone is hugely important because, at any time, people you’re working with can just turn against you and decide that now is the time to take you out and gain all the loot they can get. With the loot being the only motivation in the game it makes going rogue all the more tempting to the players. There is also a vendor who will trade Dark Zone credits for level-dependant gear for those who might not have gear good enough to even survive.
Yes its true….
