[section_title title=”Real World Performance”]Real World Performance
As usual for mice, I will split the real world performance side of things into the three sections which I feel deserve equal and thorough mention.
Ergonomics
From a design perspective the Elite is of the right handed palm grip variety, and considering the strong similarities between this and the Mionix Naos it is no wonder that the Elite is a very comfortable mouse indeed. Though the ridge to support your spare fingers is less pronounced on the Elite it is still a very nice ergonomic feature.
The large thumb buttons are also great, they are easy to locate and the placing is ideal, overall the mouse is just a winner when it comes to comfort and ease of use. If you have large hands you’ll love this mouse but some with small hands might struggle so be warned.
My only real complaint with the Elite is that the coating is not great, there isn’t really much grip there and the sides of the mouse would really benefit from a more tactile rubberised surface.
Buttons
The buttons are a real treat on the Elite, every single button has a nice click to it; even the DPI switches. The mouse buttons have a great response to them and its very easy to get a good rapid click going if you are playing an RTS, or if you are playing that cookie clicker game.
Whilst it doesn’t necessarily add much performance wise I really do like mice where all the buttons are nice and clicky with a solid feel, it really does add to the quality feel of a mouse disproportionately in my opinion.
It’s not all good though, the scroll wheel is a complete disaster. It is not really all that grippy, it has a load of horizontal play in it and there is so little resistance that I wouldn’t even want to use it for something like switching weapons as it would be easy to go one too many notches.
Tracking
Putting what we saw on the previous page into practice the tracking performance of the Elite is as you would expect from an Avago sensor, overall tracking is smooth and responsive and although it is the main issue the A9800 faces I honestly can’t say I noticed any significant acceleration. That may be down to the fact that I was distracted by the high lift off point that has no driver adjustment whatsoever though; which as a low sensitivity player who picks the mouse up I find very annoying.
The implementation of laser sensors really is improving fast and although they still lack the potency of optical sensors we just have to accept that marketing departments rule the roost and high DPI sells mice, in this configuration complemented by the ergonomic shape and super slippery feet the Elite performs as well as I could ask of any laser mouse.
