PERFORMANCE

When I look at buying a headset, there are a couple major points that I consider, they are audio quality, comfort, microphone performance and price. Headsets are a massive part of gaming these days, especially if you live in a house with other people, who don’t like hearing the screams of your victims, in game of course. So that leads me to what I consider the most important feature, audio.

AUDIO

I’ve owned many a different headset before trying out the Venom Stereo Vibration Gaming Headset or VGH for short, but one thing that needs to matter most is the audio quality.

This is one of those times that the VGH both surprised me but also wondering. I tried the headset whilst playing Assassin’s Creed on the PS4. The reason I chose this game is because I could get a mix of sound not just from the action, but the people talking around me, explosions, and gorgeous water effects.

What I did notice is that the VGH struggles with the balance of bass to the rest of the audio. It makes your hearing feel under pressure at times and resulted in slight disorientation. The way they’ve countered this effect is with the addition of the vibration setting. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand the point in vibration in gaming as it is meant to add another dimension to the feel of the game, but for me it is an unnecessary addition. I actually found myself turning it down or off as it didn’t offer anything towards my gaming experience.

Where the headset does do well is the stereo aspect. I could tell the direction of the discussion, I could make out where my attackers might be stalking from the shadows, and the cut scenes were beautiful to listen and admire the subtle changes in voice.

But this also ties down into the price, though the audio quality for the price is decent it has the feeling of an extremely high-range product with it being a mid-range priced one, but it also leaves you wanting that high-range quality.

That’s the main problem with the VGH, it always feels as though it’s missing something. You have this beautifully made product with sound that just doesn’t quite make it the whole experience you want it to be.

COMFORT

The VGH is designed for comfort and visual beauty. The headband is a thick rubber plastic that offers plenty of adjustment with sizing. The company clearly knows that someone with a big head like me needs this option. The band is actually quite comfortable on the top of the head, and it didn’t have me wanting to take it off during use.

The cups are one of the most important aspects of the headsets and luckily the VGH has large deep cups that sit nicely over the ear. They are designed to make you feel more immersive with the noises coming from in-game. They are a nice touch and are well cushioned for comfort. As someone who doesn’t wear glasses, I’m not able to say if they’d be comfortable or not, but saying that I’m sure this is a problem with many a glasses wearing gamer.

In summary I’d have to give praise for the comfort of the VGH’s. They are designed to try and not feel too heavy, but still bring that cushioned weight I believe some headsets need.

MICROPHONE

This is one piece of kit I sometimes ignore as I’m the one speaking, but for a headset it’s pretty important. I decided to take a new look at the microphone and to be fair I was very surprised. Most of my previous headsets have been Turtle Beach and these microphones are easy to use, but sometimes can get in the way when I am raging.

I’m happy to say the VGH doesn’t suffer with this problem. The mic, during testing, did very well with PlayStations built in audio check. The ability to alter the way the PS4 captures voice is impressive and helps vastly with this licensed product.

The company havent added anything special with the mic apart from the ability to remove it when gaming, which I believe is a nice touch. I’ve always wanted a headset where you can took it into the headband but my knowledge of headsets hasn’t gone that far as of yet.
